See me, hear me, know me?

Using video.

Although 'still in its infancy', the use of video is rapidly becoming an increasingly common, important & accepted element of 'the marketing mix'—the means whereby your message is presented and spread to the waiting world.

A good way of 'getting the world out', done well it offers huge potential gains and, even when done poorly can still be a useful advantage.

If, in terms of conveying information, a picture is worth a thousand words, the moving image scores somewhat higher… so be aware and beware—it can quickly make you look good or bad in a highly memorable way.

You don't need the tale-telling abilities of Coppola, Scorcese or Spielberg; in an era of increasing pressure for attention, such attention to depth of detail could be a liability—luring you to convey more info than is appropriate. Nor is there a requirement for a huge budget.

Undertaken appropriately—you and a camcorder, some sound & graphics, plus basic editing using readily-available & inexpensive home computer software—effective video messages can be quickly & cheaply produced.

How to use them? Simple: on your website and others. For 'others', the most immediate option is YouTube. Don't be deterred by the huge amount of crap onsite (performing animals, sexual antics and old tv clips), it's a valid outlet.

Using video and YouTube wisely is beyond the scope of this entry, so try a Google search for more.
