Responsibility.
Here's the third and final (for now, at least) piece in our brief 'irresponsibility to responsibility' series.
We began with 'The MLM-recruiting and training process.'—in which we featured 'irresponsibility' and, in referencing the diligence and hard work with which true professionals like doctors, lawyers, architects, firefighters, etcetera approach their work, suggested:
Faaaaaaar too many folk in this business don't act as adults (read: 'be responsible') in their dealings.
'Professionalism' is something the typical NM-er rarely 'gets'—and is too often something about which they simply don't want to know.
Moving to 'Nuts!', we introduced the notion of 'responsibility'—making the point that a start in that direction involves being open to the reality of the business:
Many of the proponents—including long-time pros who know the truth, and newbies who don't—act like everything's hunky-dory… when, with rampant ridiculous behavior, lousy marketing, bad attitudes, hype, plenty of spam and crazy pricing, any sane 10 year-old kid can see the bugs & flaws. More importantly, they can usually also see the solutions and the benefits thereof.
Were I 'simply' an individual NM distributor depending on it for my living… as CEO of 'Me Inc'… I'd run-not-walk distance myself from all the nonsense and make damn sure it never figured in my day-to-day thinking.
For this piece, which completes the shift from irresponsibility to responsibility, let's continue the theme of 'what you, as CEO of 'Me Inc' can do with your stuff'.
Even a cursory flick-through of 'report' will show this to be something to which I frequently return… it's one of the two main themes—t'other being to beat-up-on and laugh at the stupidity of the business.
Among prior pieces, 'Network Marketing is changing.', 'The coming Network Marketing doom.' and 'A new breed of Network Marketer.' merit mentions.
In them, we hinted strongly at…
A new breed of Network Marketer… 'proud to be pro'.
Fully-aware-and-engaged, locked'n'loaded on their own personal 'in search of excellence' quest.
Having understood and accepted 'to earn, learn', they behave accordingly—in stepping away from the nonsense, they prosper through learning new skills.
What's the point here for 'ordinary' Network Marketers trying to develop a good business? Simple: get smart and get on with it. Don't be a lazy asshole who besmirches the business; nor a 'well-meaning, but never quite got it together' type.
Step up to and embrace the higher standard of 'professional practitioner'. Bottom line? Seriously, the potential this business offers for 'ordinary people to earn extraordinary income' is unsurpassed. So wise-up and find a way to make it work for you.
Toward that, I suggest you set aside some time and trawl through the archives here—along with no small amount of 'this is crap' bitchin', there's a lot of practical solutions to very real & common problems.
Accepting personal responsibility can be a complex process requiring many things, including:
- Acknowledging that you are responsible for your life.
- Taking an honest inventory of your strengths and weaknesses.
- Being open to new ideas.
- Taking risks.
- Reorganizing your priorities and goals.
'The person in charge of your life.' Can you handle that?
